TANDALA TEACHER'S COLLEGE

Tandala Teachers College is a Government College established in 1975 with C.U.31 Registration Number in order to implement the Musoma Universal Primary Education (UPE) declaration. The college initially begun at Tandala Primary School buildings which was a middle school by then owned by Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (E.L.C.T), Southern Central Diocese which handed it to the government. The teacher education training started in January 1976. The total of 118 male students only were admitted in the college.

Location

Tandala Teachers College is found within Tandala Village, Tandala Ward, Makete District in Njombe Region. It is located 85 kilometers Westwards from Njombe Town and 30 kilometers Southwards from Makete town.

To deliver holistically developed teachers with the necessary knowledge, skills, values and positive attitude who can serve the basic teaching and learning needs. Teachers who can face confidently political, social and economic life challenges through Competence Based approach.

COURSES OFFERED

Currently the college offers Grade III A Teachers Certificate for Primary and Early Childhood Education. Previously the college offered teachers certificate in Grade C up to 1985 when teachers were trained for four years. The programme was ran up to November 1996. The first enrollment graduated in that year 1996. Grade A certificate teacher training began in 1994, for the first time only male students were enrolled and graduated in May, 1996.

Tandala Teachers College as other teachers colleges in Tanzania mainland has passed through various phases of teacher training programmes. In 2000 the college offered in service teachers training with grade C/B who later advanced to grade IIIA.

From July 2001 the college began offering training to form four qualified school leavers to join teacher training programme for two years: whereas one year spent in the college and the other year as an internship under PEDP programme. This training programme went up to 2006. In 2006 the college continued offering teacher training programme for Grade IIIA in two years. Together with the mentioned grade IIIA programmes, the college also offered in service training for three years up to 2009. In 2014 the college began to offer diploma certificate training under NACTE. In 2016 apart from Grade III A training and Ordinary Diploma in Early Childhood and Primary Education, the college also offered Diploma in Secondary Education for one phase of teaching programme.

• Diploma in Secondary Education from 2016 – 2019
• Grade IIIA Teachers Certificate for Primary and Early Childhood Education from 2018 to date.
